Starting March 22nd 2025, there will be not one, but two new films showing at the Zotter chocolate theatre. “Tanzania” and “Uganda”, an Africa double feature.
Our Africa trip was so magnificent, and we shot so much material, we had enough for two feature films, which we are now showing concurrently.
We have two screening rooms, and we are featuring a different film in each of them. Which one you see at our Zotter Chocolate Theatre will be a surprise.
A documentary as a musical – and the beautiful score tells you everything there is to know about cacao. Go on a fascinating cocoa journey with Josef and Julia Zotter, visiting the Kokoa Kamili cacao farmers in Tanzania. Learn all about the cacao harvest and different cacao quality grades, and meet all the people behind the process as well as illustrator Andreas H. Gratze. Director Roland Wehap has captured the joie de vivre, the stunning colours and awe-inspiring landscape in his documentary, and is telling this story in the form of a musical, creating an entirely new film genre he calls “docsical”. The score was composed by Klaus Kobald, and features singers from Austria, Tanzania and Uganda. Don’t worry, Josef Zotter will not be singing…
The songs and most of the dialogues are in English.
Josef and Julia Zotter travel through Uganda’s mythical landscapes and visit the Latitude cacao farmers. Learn all about cacao and its different quality grades. Look over the shoulders of cacao farmers and find out what inspires Zotter illustrator Andreas H. Gratze. It’s a gripping documentary – up close and authentic, as director Roland Wehap almost entirely does away with voiceover commentary, except for a few short poems. Otherwise, all sound is original – and it’s as if you were right there yourself.
Most of the dialogues are in English.
